Current Limiting Reactor 1500 Amps Continuous, 18.7 uH
P/N 19038CLR
The customer application is shown below. The CLR (current limiting reactor) consists of three gapped inductors inside one enclosure. The input power is 240 VAC, 3 PH, 60 Hz. Circuit breakers are supplied by the customer. A 10.6 volts drop is observed at 480 amps continuous current.
The Calculations of inductance value for 240 amps continuous and 34000 amps fault current are shown below:
Assuming 34000 Amps Fault Current, The Inductance Value is
- V = 2 x pi x F x L x I (Fault Current)
- L = 240 / (2 x pi x F x I (Fault Current))
- L= 240 / (2 x 3.142 x 60 x 34000) = 18.7 uH
Voltage Drop Across The CLR At 1500 Amps Continuous Is
- V = 2 x pi x F x L x I (Continuous Current)
- V = 2 x 3.142 x 60 x (18.7 x 10-6) x 1500
- V = 10.6 Volts
The voltage drop across the CLR at different current levels is shown in Table A:
Table A
Voltage Drop Across The CLR | Current Thru The CLR |
10.6 Volts | 1500 Amps |
14.1 Volts | 2000 Amps |
21.2 Volts | 3000 Amps |
35.3 Volts | 5000 Amps |
70.6 Volts | 10000 Amps |
141.2 Volts | 20000 Amps |
212 Volts | 30000 Amps |
240 Volts | 34000 Amps |
